The film was released on February 9, 2018 and has received mixed reviews from critics. The animation was made by Animal Logic. Plot Peter Rabbit's feud with the McGregor family reaches new heights as he and Tom McGregor compete for the affections of a kind animal lover who lives next door. Bad Qualities The McGregors get tortured almost throughout the entire film by the animals. Mr. McGregor suffers a heart attack and dies, which obviously isn't suitable for a family film. Adding insult to injury, the animals react to his death by trashing his house in a wild party, although Mr. McGregor was responsible for the death of Peter's parents. A gang of bunnies pelt Tom McGregor with blackberries until he has a near-fatal allergic reaction to them. This has led to many people boycotting the movie due to it being insensitive towards people with food allergies. Very poor jokes, some of which are incredibly inappropriate for a family film or are just plain disturbing. Hitting the groin or smacking into a rake are boringly predictable. Peter goes from being a friendly guy to a psychopath who tries to get rid of someone he hates. A tiresome plot and convoluted storyline, which dosen't really seem to follow the story at all. The film only involves the Rabbits trying to destroy a garden, yet most of the movie boils down to a lot of filler, with almost nothing going on during the movie. The plot itself also suffers from being fairly, mainly due to the fact that there is only weak humor compared to any real character development or interesting concepts. Completely disrespects the original source material close to the point where it is practically an adaptation in-name-only; the Rabbits, Mr. Mcgregor, and other characters all act nothing like their original counterparts or designs. The scenes are rather unwatchable, filler and reused such as the animals having a wild party at Mr. McGregor's house after the latter's death. The morals in the film hardly get any screen-time and they feel shoved in there to sell more toys with the gadgets. In fact, the whole movie itself feels more like a soulless than being an actual film with real comparrsion and love put into it. The film abandons the timeless, "slice of life" feel of the books to cram in toilet humor and pop-culture references in an attempt to be hip and current to children. The infamous Allergy Bullying scene offended people with a certain allergy. Good Qualities Good casting choices of Margot Robbie ( Suicide Squad, Focus, I, Tonya), Rose Byrne ("Bridesmaids, "Neighbors"), and Daisy Ridley (the Star Wars sequel trilogy). The ending isn’t too bad. Plus, Peter Rabbit and the animals do feel sorry for what they did, and they try to put things right in the rest of the film, which turned out successful. Decent 2D animation. Great CGI. The animals themselves look realistic. Good voice acting for the rabbits. The soundtrack is mostly okay. Reception On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 43% based on 133 reviews, with an average rating of 5. 8/10. The website's critical consensus reads, "Despite its striking visuals, Peter Rabbit as a story feels unimaginative. " On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 51 out of 100 based on 26 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews".
